I have little to no nostalgia for the old net. I entered the internet much later than most my age, and by the time I arrived web development had begun its slow coalescence into the hands of a few platform holders. Even now, barely half a decade later, the internet has become increasingly centralized and increasingly corprate, everything owned by a handful of major companies. This, as a communist and anarchist, I cannot abide.
Social media is the devil! Delete your instagram, delete your tiktok, delete your facebook!
Hyperbolic ideological statements aside, I'm giving neocities a try as a slower, non-algorithm driven alternative to social media. Also so I can learn to make webpages, because thats a skill we don't really have anymore.
